Job Announcements

The Atrium Learning Center is currently accepting applications for the following positions:

Biology Tutors

Under the supervision of the director and/or the assistant director, the tutors will be responsible to provide tutoring in biology that they have completed and feel confident in helping fellow students who require assistance. The successful candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • To tutor students on a one-to-one basis or in a group format and to be attentive to students who require assistance
  • To coordinate their work with other tutors who work in the center
  • To actively participate in tutor coordination meetings
  • To record each student’s tutoring session daily on to a tutor log, and to ensure the log is legible and all the information is provided for each visit and return it to room LG 18 at the end of each shift
  • To distribute the verification slips to students who request them and to ensure these slips are secure at all times
  • To assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications: The applicants must have a willingness to assist fellow students in a biological sciences course that the tutor successfully completed. They must also enjoy working with people.

Computer Tutors

Under the supervision of the director, and/or the assistant director, the FWS computer tutors will be responsible to provide students in the computer lab with hands-on assistance with a variety of tasks. The successful candidates will be accountable will be accountable for the following:

  • To assist students with registering for classes on CUNYfirst
  • To explain to new and returning students how to use the print management plus system to print out their papers, Power Point slides, or other relevant information
  • To assist students in navigating their Brightspace accounts
  • To help students retrieve files from their flash drives
  • To explain to students how to use the scanner to scan documents and place them on a flash drive

Qualifications: The applicants must be familiar with print options for Power Point, PDF, as well as basic options such as portrait and landscape. They also must be familiar with Brightspace- specifically how to establish an account, log in , and retrieve documents. Applicants must have familiarity with Google Drive and have the ability to navigate browsers, specifically, Firefox and Chrome. They should enjoy working with people and have considerable patience with others.

Math Tutors

Under the supervision of the director and/or the assistant director, the tutors will be responsible to provide tutoring in mathematics that they have completed and feel confident in helping fellow students who require assistance. The successful candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • To tutor students on a one-to-one basis or in a group format and to be attentive to students who require assistance
  • To coordinate their work with other tutors who work in the center
  • To actively participate in tutor coordination meetings
  • To record each student’s tutoring session daily on to a tutor log, and to ensure the log is legible and all the information is provided for each visit, and to return it to room LG 18 at the end of each shift
  • To distribute the verification slips to students who request them and to ensure these slips are secure at all times
  • To assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications: The applicants must have a willingness to assist fellow students in a mathematics course that the tutor successfully completed. They must also have familiarity with WebWork, which is an online homework system, and enjoy working with people.

Outreach Workers

Under the supervision of the director, assistant director, and/or CUNY office assistant, the FWS employees will assist the ALC staff with student outreach efforts focused on educating City Tech students about the services available in the Atrium Learning Center. The candidates will be responsible for one or more of the following duties:

  • To accompany the ALC staff when making class visits and conducting outreach sessions in the Namm Complex for the purpose of advising students of the tutoring, equipment borrowing, and computer lab services.
  • To accompany the ALC staff during scheduled outreach sessions outside of the cafeteria for the purpose of demonstrating how tutor.com works.
  • To show students how to use tutor.com outside of the ALC
  • To provide students, staff, and faculty with directions and information regarding needed college services and contact information
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: The applicants must demonstrate they possess sufficient skills to perform the duties of the job to which they are assigned. They must enjoy working with people and have considerable patience when dealing with others. The applicants must have the ability to communicate adequately with students who require assistance.
