Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if tutoring is available for the students taking my course?

You may check the student tab for specifics regarding tutoring. This information is updated regularly to ensure you know which subjects are covered by the tutors.

How can the Atrium Learning Center assist students in my course?

Tutoring sessions provide an opportunity to supplement what your students learn in class. The sessions allow them to meet with a tutor, either one-on-one or in a small group, to review course material and to ask questions. Tutoring should always be used in conjunction with a faculty member's office hours. The purpose of a tutor is to guide and explain concepts so that students can obtain the skills to fully integrate course material. A tutor will not complete assignments, exams, or projects.

How do I know if the student I referred for assistance receive help?

Many faculty members refer students for tutoring when they determine the student is in need of support. This generally occurs after the first assignment was submitted or the first examination was taken. Sometimes the referral comes directly from a faculty member, and other times it comes through the early alert system.

If students require proof of their tutorial session, they can obtain a verification slip from the tutor. This slip verifies the date and time of the session, identifies students' preparedness, and provides recommendations and comments. This slip may be given to a faculty member or adviser.

What happens during a tutoring session?

Tutors and students set and develop strategies to achieve academic goals.

Can I recommend a student to be a tutor?

Yes! The Atrium Learning Center welcomes recommendations for outstanding students. All you have to do is complete our Recommendation Form.

What are the requirements to become a tutor?

They must also possess good interpersonal skills and patience when dealing with others. The ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule of a minimum of 5 hours per week for an entire semester is also required.
