Peer Support Programs

Sometimes a peer is able to offer support in ways that professional faculty and staff just can't match. City Tech recognizes the need for students to be supported in many ways, and as such has a variety of Peer Support Programs that you can look to for assistance and/or look to join to become a peer leader.

Student Success Center Peer Coaches

Success Coaches are upper-level students who help other students navigate college. They support students in accessing resources and problem solving, as well as share tips and tricks of what makes them successful students.

First Year Programs Peer Mentors

First Year Programs Peer Mentors are role models who are eager to share their experiences and knowledge to help incoming City Tech students adjust to college life. Mentors are assigned to students who take City Tech 101 (CT101), ENG1101CO/ML, ESL 21W, or are enrolled in a First Year Learning Community. Students not enrolled in the courses mentioned who want a Peer Mentor can request one by contacting FYP through this link.

College Now- Near-Peer Mentors

College Now’s near-peer mentors are City Tech undergraduates who support the College Now program’s high school students enrolled in college-credit courses, college-readiness workshops and our summer STEM research program on the City Tech campus.

Student Life and Development Peer Navigators

The Peer Navigators assist new and current students with their academic transition into college life. With the assistance of well-trained Peer Leaders, the goal is to encourage a community of academic integration, campus support and help students navigate college life. If you're looking to get involved on campus, a Peer Navigator is a good first stop. Peer Navigators are located in the Student Life & Development Office, G516.

SEEK Peer Mentoring

The SEEK Peer Mentoring Program is an initiative to support first-year SEEK students with transitioning to college. SEEK Peer Mentors are upper-classmen who recognize the value of being a go-to person, a connector, a role model and a leader for new SEEK students finding their path.

Peer Tutors are central to this program as they not only help students with academic struggles, but also serve as mentors and role models. BMI is open to all students.

Peer Led Team Learning Peer Leaders

The Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leadership Program is designed to promote, foster, and recognize diverse student leaders, and their ability to motivate, inspire, and positively influence others on campus and in the community. Peer Leaders are chosen and provided training to facilitate workshops in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The peer leaders acquire skills on how to build a vibrant community of student learners in order to help students succeed academically in their STEM courses. This not only benefits the students, but the Peer Leaders as well. With experience like this, peer leaders have gone into successful leadership careers, or careers where they guide others.
