Associate Degree for Bachelor's Students

You May Be Able to Earn an Associate Degree En Route to Your Bachelor's - Reverse Transfer

You may be closer than you think to earning an associate degree while working toward your bachelor's!

If your major has both an associate and a bachelor's degree, and you will have earned 60 or more credits by the end of this semester and do not have an associate degree in the same field from another college, you might already qualify—all you need to do is apply.

Why apply for an associate degree?

  • It can boost your job prospects and salary potential while you finish your bachelor's.
  • It helps protect your completed credits from expiring if you take a break from school.
  • You officially become a college graduate and can attend commencement.

Here's how to apply:

  1. Go to the Registrar Forms page and download the "Application for Degree." Fill it out and upload it to the Registrar Form Submission site.
  2. Submit the form by the graduation application deadline of the current semester–you can find it in the academic calendar for the current semester. The deadline to apply for June 2026 graduation is Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
  3. If you're unsure about your eligibility, talk with your academic advisor or use DegreeWorks to do a quick audit.

Using DegreeWorks to check if you qualify:

  1. Go to https://degreeworks.cuny.edu/ and log in.
  2. Click the "What If" tab in your audit.
  3. Select Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS).
  4. Choose your catalog year and the associate degree major (see chart below).
  5. Click "Process New."

If your audit shows all requirements and credits (including a GPA of 2.0 or higher, 15 credits in your major, and 30 credits at City Tech) as complete, you're likely eligible–congrats!

Remember: use the correct associate degree name as the Academic Plan on your application.
