New freshman and transfer students are advised in the S.T.A.R. (Scheduling, Testing, Advisement, Registration). Advisors review the results of your City University of New York (CUNY) Assessment Tests in reading, writing and mathematics. They will answer questions you have about the academic and curricular requirements of your chosen program of study and assist you in selecting and registering for the courses you need for your first semester at City Tech. If your career interests change, advisors will offer you career options and help you change your course of study, if necessary.

The Office of Academic Testing administers the CUNY assessment tests and provides your test scores. All new students are required to meet the University's basic skills standards in reading, writing and mathematics. The City University of New York Assessment Tests are used to determine whether you meet these standards or if you require additional preparation.
If English is not your native language, you may be advised to take courses in the College's English as a Second Language Program (ESL) or the Language Immersion Program.

Textbooks are available in various formats (new, used, digital, rental.) We offer price match on textbooks-https://www.bkstr.com/newyorkcitystore/price-match-guarantee. The bookstore will buy back textbooks at the end of each semester for half of what you paid, provided the book will be used again the following term.
The store also carries many other items—general reading and reference books, school supplies, City Tech clothing, gifts and convenience items are available at the bookstore.
Payment can be made via cash, major credit card or debit card and Apple Pay. A full refund will be given for general merchandise accompanied by a receipt. Textbooks are refundable within the first week of classes or within 2 days of purchase through midterms.

The Bursar's Office receives tuition and fee payments in cash, by personal check or money order. To pay tuition by credit card or debit card, (there is a 2.65% non-refundable convenience fee added for all card purchases), e-check or from savings, you must pay online through your CUNYfirst account. For your convenience, a 24-hour lockbox is located outside the Bursar's Office to collect tuition payments by check or money order. The Vision Care Technology Eyeglass Clinic at New York City College of Technology offers eye care services to students, faculty, staff, alumni and community residents.
