Application Evaluation Process
Evaluation of each First-Year Application goes through the following steps.

  1. Evaluation of General Academic Requirements
The CUNY application is received by the New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) Admissions Office and is reviewed to confirm all general academic requirements are met. At this time, students who meet the requirements will receive a letter from the NYCCT admissions office stating that they have been provisionally admitted to the B.Arch program, but are required to submit a supplemental application to the department for final determination. Students who fail to submit the supplemental application are automatically placed in the B. Tech program.
  2. Supplemental Application Review
The B. Arch Admissions Committee carefully and thoroughly reviews supplemental applications. This committee comprises all full-time faculty members and some adjunct faculty members from the Department of Architecture. Each application undergoes a blind review process by a minimum of six committee members and is evaluated using a standardized rubric.
  3. Admissions Determination
Students are ranked based on their total scores from Step 2 and are granted admission according to the number of available seats.

Important Dates

  • Admission Letters of Notification are sent no later than June 15.
  • Students must respond by no later than June 30. If the student does not respond by June 30, their seat in the program will be offered to another student.

Progression Requirements

Once accepted into the B. Arch degree program, the following progression requirements must be met for continuation in the program:

  1. A minimum grade of “C” for the following courses: Architectural Design (ARCH 1112, ARCH 1212, ARCH 2312, ARCH 2412, and ARCH 3512) and Building Technology (ARCH 1231, ARCH 2331, ARCH 2431, and ARCH 3531).

    2. Advisement: Participate in a formal advisement session before the upcoming semester registration.
    3. Portfolio: Submit a progression portfolio for review in the spring semester of their 3rd year.

Those not meeting these progression requirements are required to participate in formal advisement sessions and will be given a warning, with one semester to make improvements. If the performance is not improved within a year of the initial warning letter, the student will be automatically transferred to the B.Tech program.

These requirements apply to applicants who have completed some architecture coursework at another university or college and wish to receive credit at City Tech.

After admission into the B.Arch program, the applicant's transfer credits will be evaluated to determine course equivalency. Most general education course equivalencies are typically determined during the CUNY application review process and can be reviewed online. For architecture-related courses, accepted applicants must provide course syllabi, sample assignments, and other relevant coursework for evaluation.

General Academic Requirements
