Biography:

Jessica Dantzler is a proud SEEK graduate of New York City College of Technology, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services in 2008. Determined to continue her academic journey, Jessica went on to obtain her Master of Social Work from Hunter College's Silberman School of Social Work in 2014, and most recently earned her LMSW, marking yet another milestone in her professional and personal growth.

Jessica began her career in Child Welfare, focusing on protective and preventive services with the New York State Department of Social Services. In her current role as a Special Consultant for social services she serves as a passionate advocate for individuals and families. In her former role as a Social Work Supervisor in preventive services, she advocated on behalf of the children and families under her care. She has built strong partnerships with parents across New York City Public Schools and has extensive experience supporting individuals living with serious mental illness, substance use challenges, and complex medical needs. Her approach is rooted in respect, person-centered practice, collaboration, equity, and a strength-based philosophy.

Her commitment to fairness extends beyond direct service—Jessica has also served as a Union Delegate Alternate for five years, championing equal opportunities for her colleagues and community members.

Jessica's dedication to service is not limited to her professional life. She is also an Ordained Minister and a deeply engaged community leader. Her contributions across the City of New York have not gone unnoticed. Jessica received a New York City Council Citation from Councilman Kevin Riley and was recognized by the Community Education Council in District 11 for her unwavering dedication to children and families.

She volunteers with Neighbors in Action, a Mayoral initiative focused on social justice, and has collaborated with board members to secure $30,000 in grant funding to support community programming. In addition, she hosts workshops covering a range of important topics including money management, health and wellness, and safety.

Reflecting on SEEK: A Foundation of Support and Community

When asked how the SEEK program supported her during her time at City Tech, Jessica shares that SEEK taught her early on that it is okay to ask for help. The program encouraged her to utilize resources such as counseling and academic services—support systems that helped her thrive.

She credits her SEEK counselor, Ms. Kristin Tonnesen, as a key source of encouragement who strengthened her confidence and ensured she always had a trusted point person. Jessica emphasizes that SEEK fostered a genuine sense of community—one that challenged students to rise to their potential.

She recalls how SEEK broadened her horizons, offering opportunities for leadership and recognition through programs such as the National Honor Society, Chi Alpha Epsilon, and the annual SEEK Awards Ceremony. Jessica will return to City Tech as the Guest Alumni Speaker for the Spring 2026 SEEK Awards, bringing her journey full circle.
