Banking

Banking services and fees vary from bank to bank. It is important that you research different banks in your area to meet your individual needs. In some cases, banks may require you to provide documentation to open up an account. Some of this documentation may include the following:

  • Proof of Address (Utility Bills, Apartment Contract…)
  • Electronic Printout of I-94
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Letter from the current school/School ID
  • Social Security Card

Questions to Ask When Deciding on a Bank:

  • Does the bank provide any special student accounts?
  • What are the monthly fees?
  • Is there a minimum balance needed to maintain the account?
  • Does the bank charge any extra fees for the use of ATMs that are not their own?

Also consider:

  • Credit History, Credit Rating and Credit Checks
