Welcome to the First Year Programs (FYP)
Welcome from the Director
Welcome new students! Your first year of college marks a major milestone and we are thrilled that you have chosen City Tech for your journey. First Year Programs has a long tradition of workshops and events whose goals are to help you thrive at City Tech.
As the Director of First Year Programs (FYP) for nearly twenty years, something I have learned is that students come to the college at various stages of development and that a large part of our educational experiences are also key life experiences. Students' academic pathways are not always unidirectional — we might take many detours in college, but this is also how we learn and engage in self-discovery.
Here in First Year Programs (FYP), we hope that new students will learn strategies for academic success, but also skills to make meaningful connections in their college lives which will impact them personally and professionally once they graduate.
First Year Programs (FYP) would like to help you with your first steps at City Tech, so please review our programs and contact us at firstyear@citytech.cuny.edu if you would like help getting started or if you have any questions.
Wishing you all the best,
Lauri Aguirre
Our Mission
Our mission is to help students reach their academic and professional goals by welcoming them into City Tech's college community. Our faculty, staff, and peer mentors support students' transition to college, foster their academic skills, and work with them to create a successful pathway to the future. First Year Programs forwards the goals of the college by creating an inclusive environment where all students feel supported, valued, and encouraged to succeed.
