Architecture and Urban Design Immersion Program (2 college-credits)
Understanding architecture is achieved by developing a visual literacy of New York City's built
environment. Using the city as a living laboratory, students enrolled in the Architecture and
Urban Design Immersion Program explore concepts of design, composition, and
construction
by writing about buildings and their construction and sketching their direct experience of
buildings.
Focus workshops on freehand drawing techniques, basic drafting skills, graphic standards, 2D
and 3D composition, basic foundation to talk, write and graphically express architecture, and
reading architectural drawings are central to this course. By linking historical, cultural, and
political context to physical forms of buildings and urban spaces, the program will deepen
students' appreciation for how architecture engages with various disciplines to reshape our
built
environments and experiences.
