City Tech is pleased to announce a new Bachelor of Science in Professional and Technical Writing (PTW)–the only degree program of its kind in the New York City area. The interdisciplinary PTW degree prepares students to communicate clearly and effectively using a variety of high-tech tools and new media. Students will gain strong communication skills and a solid knowledge base through specialization in a content area, namely, a professional, scientific, or technical discipline. More Info
City Tech is pleased to announce the publication of a new online, peer-reviewed journal: NANO: New American Notes Online, www.nanocrit.com, an interdisciplinary journal founded and edited by Professor Sean Scanlan, who teaches in City Tech's English Department. "NANO's goal is to invigorate humanities discourse by publishing brief, peer-reviewed reports with a fast turnaround enabled by new technologies," says Scanlan.
Katie Dellamaggiore, director of the acclaimed documentary film Brooklyn Castle (2012) and Pobo Efekoro, one of the student stars of the film, will kick off City Tech's 32nd Annual Literary Arts Festivalon Thursday, April 18, 2013, 5:30 p.m.
A collection of essays by William Diver (1921-1995) – professor of linguistics at Columbia from 1955 until his retirement in 1989 and the intellectual founder of the Columbia School of Linguistics – has been co-edited, annotated and presented by City Tech’s Alan Huffman and City College’s Joseph Davis.
“Grammar is really a navigation system for writing,” says Jane Tainow Feder, professor of English at City Tech. Feder, who has been teaching at the College for more than 40 years, has compiled her entertaining way of approaching the fundamentals of writing into The GPS for Writing: Grammar, Punctuation, and Sentence Structure.
"I want people to know that mental illness is not someone having a bad day, or a bad week, but a chronic disease that surely causes as much suffering as a serious physical illness - on both the afflicted and their loved ones." So says City Tech's Nina Bannett, author of Lithium Witness (Finishing Line Press, 2011), a poetry chapbook that chronicles her life growing up with a mother who suffered from bi-polar disorder, formerly called manic depression.
City Tech hosted "Poetry on the Plaza," an evening of poetry featuring Willie Perdomo, City Tech Peace Officer David Edwards, aka Poetic Justice, and City Tech students, faculty and alumni, on Thursday, September 15, in Cadman Plaza Park.
