Support Opportunities For Education Students

City Tech's students interested in becoming teachers have financial support opportunities. Three programs are detailed below:

  • MBK Teacher Opportunity Corps II Scholarship Program
  • NYC Men Teach Program offers benefits and support and is open to all Education Majors
  • LEAP TO Teacher (LTT) at City Tech

Education students may be eligible to participate in all three programs.

Students majoring in either Mathematics Education or Career and Technology Teacher Education are invited to apply

  • Tuition support up to $3,000 per year
  • Additional $1,500 stipend when completing a 10-month internship in a NYC school
  • Travel support to attend teacher education conferences.
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Peer Networking

  • Must be a New York State resident
  • Must be enrolled in a teacher preparation program at City Tech
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • New or transfer students to a teacher preparation program can apply

  • My Brother's Keeper - New York State funding.

Students majoring in either Mathematics Education or Career and Technology Teacher Education are invited to apply

  • Stipend each semester; amount varies based on program progress
  • Vouchers for:
    • Free fingerprinting
    • Free mandatory workshops
    • Free certification exams

  • Information on teaching opportunities, events and workshops
  • Ongoing advisement; resume review
  • Active network as part of 16-campus NYCMT program and NYC Public Schools

  • Completed 24 credits toward Bachelor's degree
  • Enrolled at City Tech
  • Minimum GPA: 2.75 to apply; 3.0 cumulative GPA to become a teacher
  • Interest in teaching in NYC schools; urban community involvement

  • NYC Men Teach is a partnership between the Office of the Mayor, the New York City Department of Education (DOE) and the City University of New York (CUNY).

  • To improve the diversity of the NYC teaching workforce to educate and support students in urban schools and highlight the importance of clinical, culturally-relevant and restorative practice.

Students who are union members and school or daycare workers majoring in Mathematics Education, Career and Technology Teacher Education, or Technology Teacher Education are invited to apply.

All LTT services are free and designed for adult learners, from pre-admission through graduation:

Academic & College Support

  • Pre-admission guidance and ongoing assistance navigating resources
  • Assistance with applications, readmission, and degree planning
  • Tutoring, writing support, and student success workshops
  • Free college preparation classes (reading, writing, math)

Professional Development

  • NYS teacher certification exam preparation
  • NYS-mandated workshops (e.g., DASA)
  • Professional learning with CTLE hours
  • A clear pathway from coursework to certification and career advancement in NYC schools

Financial Guidance

  • Support navigating union/employer benefits (UFT/DOE, DC37)
  • Information on DOE vouchers and reimbursement programs
  • Access to the SLU LEAP to Teacher Scholarship for eligible students in teacher shortage areas

You may be eligible for LTT services if you:

  • Are employed in a school or daycare setting in NYC
  • Are enrolled at, or interested in applying to, City Tech (or another LTT partner CUNY campus)

You do not need to be certain you want to become a teacher to receive advisement—LTT can also support exploration of related career pathways.

  • The LEAP To Teacher program is operated and funded by CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) and its partner colleges - which provides all the support services, scholarships, and resources at no cost to eligible participants.
