FAQs

  1. The nursing program admissions is an extremely competitive process. The program can only admit a specific number of students as the faculty/ student ratios are regulated by the nursing accreditation organization.
    1. All the eligible applicants are ranked based upon their GPA in the 4 required pre-requisite classes.
    2. The applicant list is ranked with a GPA of 4.0 as the first acceptance, and the acceptance offers move down form the GPA of a 4.0 until the class is filled.
    3. The Nursing department cannot state a GPA that will guarantee admission into the program because the pool of applicants changes each admission cycle.
    4. Trends in the last 5 years, has demonstrated the lowest accepted GPA into the nursing program has been about a GPA of 3.4. However, having a GPA of 3.4 does not guarantee acceptance into the Nursing program because it depends on the applicant pool of students.
  2. Please watch the Nursing Admission Requirements video
  3. To be considered for admission, a student must be currently enrolled in a course at City Tech in the semester in which you apply to the program. For example, I am applying Spring 2025, I must be enrolled in a course at City Tech during the Spring 2025 semester.

    2. When a student has received a “C” or better on more than one introductory course but has not received a “D” or “F” in an introductory course, the student may replace only one of the introductory course grades with the grade of the next level course to raise their G.P.A. (ex. ENG 1121 for ENG 1101; BIO 2312 for BIO 2311; PSY 2301 for PSY 1101; or MAT 1375 or higher or MAT 1272 for MAT 1275).

Therefore the nursing department will use the next level class as the only substitution in the pre- requisite sequence for program admission. For example, EG1101 is a CR and EG 1121 is a B. The EG1121 will be used to calculate the admission GPA and the one and only course substitution permitted.
