Robin Michals is a photographer whose focus since 2021 has been on dance and performance. Recent clients have included the American Guild Dance, Artichoke Dance, the Center for Performance Research, Creative Performances, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the International Human Rights Arts Festival and the Queensboro Dance Festival among others. Before the pandemic, for over 12 years, her work documented environmental issues. Her series Our Neighborhood juxtaposes sites of residential life in cities and towns across the US with the infrastructure of the fossil fuel industries. This work was exhibited at St. Francis University in Philadelphia, the Marshall J. Gardener Center for the Arts in Gary, Indiana and as part of the 8th Edition of THE FENCE in 2019-2020. The series was selected for Critical Mass Top 50 in 2019 and in 2020, it was one of eight winners of the 7th Tokyo International Photography Competition.
Before joining the Communication Design Department at New York City College of Technology, for 14 years, she worked as an art director and designer for numerous print and online communications. She designed new and special interest publications for TV Guide, Ladies Home Journal, Weight Watchers, and American Lawyer Media. She was the Senior Designer of FOX Sports Online from 1996-1998. She designed the first online presence for The New Yorker magazine as well as CondeNast's Lucky Magazine.
She holds a BA from Barnard College and an MFA from Columbia University.
