Spring Semester 2024 ADVISEMENT SCHEDULE

If you need any assistance, please contact us at 718-260-5135, or email at CAli@citytech.cuny.edu or HumanServices@citytech.cuny.edu.

For the internship information, please go to Internship.

Are you ready to be advised? The department offers advisement via zoom, email, or in-person in Spring 2024. Here is what you need to do before joining the advisement session.

Advisors can answer/assist in all department/course policies, such as:

  • TAP flags;
  • Proof of credits;
  • Career/graduate school consultation;
  • Review your Advisement Guide;
  • Report to Register any changes needed;
  • Answers general questions; and Referral to other depts.

Chairperson does not hold advisement hours. Therefore, the chain of command is to start with an advisor first as they can assist you with most issues. If an issue needs further assistance, the Advisor will contact the Chair on your behalf and follow up with you.

Change of Curriculum: If you need to change your curriculum, fill out a change of curriculum form and submit the form on Registrar Student Submission Link. Do not send your form to the HUS faculty or the chairperson.

Before Advisement Sessions:
Students are to view the Sample Advisement Guide; their CUNYfirst Student Summary; Transcript; Degree Works to successfully complete their Guide where there are no empty cells where students have/are/will take a course.

Zoom or Email Advisement (No appointment necessary - stay in Waiting Room)
Students must send three documents via email to a faculty advisor right before the zoom or email advisement session:

Please read the below instructions carefully to best experience in-person advisement.

  1. Send your questions/inquiries ONLY to an advisor you wish to get advisement.
  2. Follow the below instructions when sending your documents via email.
    1. Email Subject Line: Your name, emplid, and state that you need advisement
      Example Email Subject Line: John Doe, Emplid 12345678, Advisement needed
    2. Email Attachment: Completed Advisement Guide, degreeworks in pdf format, transcript in pdf format
    3. Email Context: Include all necessary information and be specific about your question, such as:
      • Tap Flag: What is the course that is being tap flagged?
      • Registration issue: What do you see on your screen? What is the hold about? Or something else
  3. If you send a BLANK Advisement Guide to a faculty advisor, you will be asked to complete the guide and re-join the session. Advisors will not fill out the Advisement Guide form for you.
  4. Do NOT send the same inquiries to all advisors. Instead, choose the time you wish to be advised, and send your information/questions to an advisor assigned to that session.
  5. Faculty advisors will only respond to you during their advisement hours. For zoom advisement, be mindful as you may have to wait in the zoom waiting room for a reasonable amount of time as zoom advisement is individual advisement. Students will be advised on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In-Person Advisement

Students must bring below three documents to the in-person session:

Overrides: Overrides are ONLY helpful for students with all the prerequisites, but the system will not allow registration.
  1. You need to see a faculty advisor first to ensure you are eligible to take a course.
  2. Once your eligibility is verified, send an override request to Dr. Cho at SCho@citytech.cuny.edu.

    When sending your override request, your email SHOULD INCLUDE the following information:

    • Email Subject Line: your name and Emplid
    • Email Context:
      1. Course Number (HUS 1101) and Course Section (E688)
      2. Degree Audit to showcase you have the prerequisites
      3. Name of the faculty and the date of a meeting you had to confirm your override qualification

Overrides will not be given to an already closed section OR if you did not complete prerequisite courses.
