Welcome to the Department of Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering Technology

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York is the largest public college of technology in the Northeast and it offers a variety of undergraduate degree programs. The Department of Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology (ETET) was one of the first and, is today one of the largest departments at City Tech.

Our Mission

The mission of the Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology department is to provide academic, technological, and cultural resources and experiences to the students of the programs we offer. High quality electrical engineering technology and telecommunications engineering technology programs are at the heart of the departmental mission. The department is dedicated to successfully educating students of diverse background and cultures for entry in the electrical and telecommunications engineering technology industries. Through excellence in teaching and innovative use of technology, the department is committed to supporting an open environment where learning, creativity, and personal growth can flourish, thus benefiting our students, our college, and our community.

The ETET department currently offers the following ETAC/ABET-accredited degree programs:

AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET)

AAS in Telecommunications Engineering Technology (TCET)

Bachelor of Technology in Telecommunications Engineering Technology (TCET)

Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET)

In addition, the department offers an AAS in Telecommunications (TC) Technology for Verizon employees (NextStep program)

We have developed strong ties with the industry through conducting not only the NextStep program, but also certificate programs in EET and TC for MTA employees and courses for United States Postal Service workers. Starting in 2007, we also began offering three tracks (areas of specialization) within the existing baccalaureate program: Wireless Communications, Optical Communications and Network Management. These tracks reflect the current trends in modern telecommunications technology.

The AAS program of the EET and AAS and BTech programs of Telecommunications Engineering Technology program curriculum are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ETAC/ABET) and offer a choice of courses in a wide range of areas including embedded microcontrollers, power and controls, analog and digital electronics, communication circuits and systems, wireless communications, fiber-optic communications, and telecommunications network management. Coursework is applications-oriented, theoretical and hands-on experience is gained through lectures and laboratory experiences that are carefully integrated into the courses. In addition, EET and Telecom students benefit from the strong emphasis placed on the development of oral and written communication skills. Graduates are firmly rooted in modern technology using state of the art industrial equipment and are able to contribute immediately in the workplace as technologists with problem solving and design project experiences. A quality education and individual academic advising are continuously provided throughout the student's program of study.

As a City Tech student, you will benefit from:

  • A friendly atmosphere and individual attention
  • Modern, well-equipped labs that duplicate on-the-job conditions
  • Hands-on experience to analyze, design, test, and trouble-shoot in variety of areas
  • Outstanding faculty recruited from business, industry, the professions, and academia
  • A solid theoretical foundation in your chosen technology or career area

The AAS and BTech programs in the Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering Technology department are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. (ETAC/ABET www.abet.org).
