Associate Professor of Chemistry Peter Spellane has published Chemical and Petroleum Industries at Newtown Creek, an informative book blending history, science, and commerce along New York’s 19th-century waterfront.

City Tech Heralds Opening of New Space for N.E.S.T. Student Food Pantry
On Nov. 15, City Tech opened the doors to the YellowJacket N.E.S.T. (Nutrition for Education and Student Achievement) Resource Center, in General Building 414. Girded by the steadfast advocacy of the Office of Student Life & Development (SLD) and the Student Government Association (SGA), the N.E.S.T. will ensure that students have access to nutritious food and other necessities while pursuing their college degrees.

English Professor Awarded Substantial Grant for City Tech's LGBTQIA+ Community
City Tech Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of the Gender & Sexuality Studies Academic Minor Laura Westengard has been awarded a $40,000 grant by CUNY's LGBTQIA+ Consortium to serve City Tech's LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff.

City Tech has signed an Educational Partnership Agreement with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), making it a member of the Air Force Information Institute, which encompasses over 100 leading institutions in the nation such as Brown, Columbia, Duke, Princeton, Purdue, and Rutgers.

Celebrating Faculty and Student Scholarship: City Tech's 20th Annual Poster Session, an esteemed tradition highlighting faculty and student research pioneered by Physics Professor Roman Kezerashvili, was held on November 17 in the New Academic building. The event marked the return of in-person one-minute oral presentations by a selected group of poster creators, including Professors Aparicio Carranza, Juan Rivera-Correa, Li Geng, Audra E Haynes, Angelo Huertero, Ivana Radivojevic Jovanovic, Pegah Khosravi, Boyan Kostadinov, A. Black & Latinx Transgender Solidarity Day

United in Support: Professor Renata Ferdinand, Chair, African American Studies Dept, and Professor Laura Westengard, Coordinator, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program, organized a celebration of life and candlelight vigil to mark Black & Latinx Transgender Solidarity Day, held in City Tech's Library Building atrium and Tillary Courtyard on November 22, 2022. The important community event included representation from City Tech administration, faculty, staff, and the student body. This event was made possible by a grant awarded from the Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and through the generous support of LaGuardia Community College and the New York City Council LGBT and Queer Caucus. Click to watch the video.

Textiles in Fashion: A new exhibition, on view at Ursula Schwerin Library until February 1, 2023, looks at clothing as a way to express inner beliefs based on concepts from Sufism (Islamic mysticism). In the front window, "Permanent Madness" displays handmade garments for characters in the medieval Persian love story of Layla and Majnun, shown alongside a performance video acting out the entanglement of the couple as they become one. The exhibit was put together by City Tech Director of Textile Technology and Assistant Professor of Business & Technology of Fashion Dr. Nazanin Hedayat Munroe.
