Are you using social media, such as blogs and wikis, Blackboard, or a faculty Web site to enrich your curriculum? Have you provided your students the opportunity to create their best work in classes you teach and showcase this work in an ePortfolio? Would you like to teach partially online courses where you seamlessly blend face-to-face class meetings with online sessions? Then you'll want to take an AtoL workshop or seminar.
Getting Started in Brightspace
An overview of key features and tools, course management — class list, groups/sections, communicating with students, adding content to courses (from existing course content, building it from scratch), assignment basics, quiz basics, adaptive release, key terms, and resources for instructors.
Assessments
Assignments, quizzes, attendance, accommodations and special access, gradebook basics.
Engaging Learners
A brief UDL overview and overview of accessibility in Brightspace, tools and features for communication (announcements, activity feed, discussions, and virtual classroom), tools and features for engagement (calendar, progress)
Gradebook
A deep dive into setting up the gradebook, including using the set-up wizard, adding in assessments, grade schemas, and releasing grades throughout the semester and as a final course grade.
Office Hours
We will consult on specific questions about your course (migrated or new) or applying your teaching practice in Brightspace.
You can log into this workshop by using your CUNYFirst credentials to get into Blackboard. Go to the CUNY website at https://www.cuny.edu/. In the far upper right-hand corner, you will see login. Pull down the menu to select Blackboard. Then use your CUNYFirst credentials to get into Blackboard.
Since this online workshop is for training purposes, you are all enrolled as students. So look for courses in which you are participating as a student. You will need to scroll down beneath the courses that you are teaching. The following workshops and presentations are designed to help you with your online teaching this semester. Some workshops will be held in-person on campus, and others will be held on Zoom. Take any face-to-face Blackboard workshop below, and have online support while learning the system. You do not need to participate for the full length of the hybrid workshop, but you can use support materials and ask questions online throughout the month. In this workshop we will cover accessing your courses, review various communication methods to stay informed, submitting assignments, using featured collaborating tools, and provide a brief overview of using Ally to enhance your learning experiences in Brightspace.
