Respondus LockDown Browser may only be required if the course description or course syllabus noted that one might be used, allowing the student to make an informed decision about enrolling in that course.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in Blackboard Learn. When students use LockDown Browser to take a Blackboard test, they are unable to print, copy, go to other websites, access other applications, or close a test until it is submitted for grading. Tests created for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with standard browsers.
While instructors are able to use Respondus LockDown Browser directly via Blackboard, students will need to download and install the application. Provide the following download link to your students: https://download.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=453108607

To provide an online examination proctoring solution where it makes sense and is practical to do so, CUNY has secured Respondus LockDown Browser for our spring 2021 midterm and final examinations.
Unlike previous remote proctoring solutions evaluated by CUNY, Respondus LockDown Browser simply restricts what students can access on their computers during online Blackboard quizzes, tests and examinations. Respondus LockDown Browser DOES NOT: include real-time or recorded remote proctoring via video, access user content on the computer or record user activity for later inspection or use by CUNY.
Respondus LockDown Browser only operates on devices meeting the following specifications (iPhones and Android devices are not supported):
Note: Courses using the Respondus Lock Down Browser must be designated on CUNY First, included in the course description, and course syllabi, allowing the student to make an informed decision about enrolling in that course. The Office of Legal Affairs (OGC) has reviewed the Terms and Conditions of several online testing application services and it is OGC's guidance that faculty cannot compel students to accept the corresponding tools' "Terms and Conditions" and that in the event students do not accept the terms, faculty must provide students reasonable assessment accommodations to demonstrate they meet the course learning requirements.
