Brookhaven National Laboratory, City Tech Announce Memorandum of Understanding for Expanded Research Partnership

Professor and Chair of African American Studies Renata Ferdinand and Associate Professor of Human Services Mery Diaz Named Two of CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies (BRES) Curriculum Fellows
The CUNY Graduate Center announced this month the selection of 65 Black, Race and Ethnic Studies (BRES) Fellows, part of a $3 million Mellon Foundation-funded initiative designed to enhance Black, race and ethnic studies scholarship and teaching at CUNY. City Tech's Dr. Renata Ferdinand, Professor of African American Studies, and Dr. Mery Diaz, Associate Professor of Human Services, are among the BRES Curriculum Development Faculty Fellows in the current cohort.

Associate Professor of Business Dr. Denise Sutton was an international visiting professor at the University of Le Havre in Fall 2022. During her visit, she presented a series of lectures on the history of advertising beauty and publishing history to graduate students and faculty.

City Tech Adjunct Professor Sidik Fofana Receives Prestigious Whiting Award for his First Book, 'Stories from the Tenants Downstairs'
Sidik Fofana, a City Tech adjunct faculty member whose first book of short stories, “Stories from the Tenants Downstairs,” was published to acclaim last summer, has been named a winner of the prestigious Whiting Award for emerging writers. The honor is given each year to 10 new literary voices by the Whiting Foundation and carries a $50,000 prize.

Dr. Jason Ellis, Associate Professor of English, Director of City Tech's Professional and Technical Writing degree program, and Coordinator of the City Tech Science Fiction Collection, has been recognized by the Georgia Institute of Technology with a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Literature, Media, and Communication in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts for “outstanding achievements that inspire continued excellence and bring credit to [Georgia Tech]."

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May sees several events celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, starting off with an opening reception of Art+Tech: An Asian American Experience on May 2 at 5 PM, with a special live music performance by Miyabi Koto and Shamisen Ensemble in the City Tech Academic Complex, 285 Jay St., Brooklyn, NY. All City Tech and CUNY students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcome! The exhibit runs May 2-12. Later in the month, check out Not Your Model Minority, a film by Jon Osaki on May 4 at 3 PM, and Bystander Intervention Training on May 10.
