How to connect to a General Lab Computer
Before connecting to Virtual Labs, please note the following requirements:
- You must change your City Tech AD default password before accessing the services below. Change your default password using Self-Service Password Reset at https://forgot.citytech.cuny.edu
- You must be connected to GlobalProtect before attempting the steps below
Connecting to a Campus-based Windows Computer from a Windows Computer
- Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual-lab/
- Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
- A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and click on Connect
- At the pop-up window, click Download, a connection file will be downloaded to your computer (check your Download Folder)
- Double-click on the downloaded file to open or right-click on the file, select Connect to open
- At the Remote Desktop Connection prompt, click Connect, enter your City Tech AD username: (nycct\John.Doe) and Password.
- Click Ok
- Click Yes when presented with the Remote Desktop Connection certificate window
- Click Ok to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
- Your desktop should launch automatically
- To end your session, click on the Start button, Power button and click Disconnect
Connecting to a campus-based Windows computer from a Mac computer
Note: You must install Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the AppStore
- Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual-lab/
- Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
- A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and click on Connect
- At the pop-up window, click Download, a connection file will be downloaded to your computer (check your Download Folder)
- Click on the downloaded file to open
- At the pop-up window, enter your City Tech AD username (nycct\John.Doe) and Password.
- Click Continue
- Click Continue at the Remote Desktop Connection certificate window and click Continue again
- Click Ok to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
- Your desktop should automatically launch
- To end your session, click on the Start button, Power button and click Disconnect
Connecting to a campus-based Mac computer from a Mac computer
- Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual-lab/
- Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
- A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice
- Record the Ip Address associated with the computer
- On your Mac, hold down the (Command + Space) keys and the Spotlight Search box will open
- Type Screen Sharing and hit the Return key
- Enter the Ip address and click on Connect
- At the pop-up window, enter the username and leave password area blank
- Click on Sign In
- Click Accept to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
- You should now see the desktop
- Click on your User Icon to login
- Your desktop should launch automatically
- To end your session, click on the Apple icon located at the upper left of your screen, select Log Out and click Log Out again when prompted
- Click red X in the upper left to end Screen Sharing
Connecting to a campus-based Windows computer from an iPad
Note: You must install Microsoft Remote Desktop Mobile App from the AppStore and download GlobalProtect Legacy or GlobalProtect whichever is compatible with your device.
- Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual/
- Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
- A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and record the Ip address associated with the computer
- Open the Remote Desktop app
- Click the (+) sign located in the upper right of your screen
- At the pop-up window, select Desktop, select PC Name and enter the Ip address, click Done
- Click User Account, Add User Account, enter your Username (City Tech Ad credentials) and click Save and Save once more
- Tap the Computer icon to connect and enter your password
- Click Done
- Click Ok to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
- Your desktop should automatically launch
- To end your session, click on the Start button, Power button and click Disconnect
- Tap GlobalProtect Home, Portal and select Disconnect.
Connecting to a campus-based Mac computer from an iPad
Note: You must install VNC Viewer App Remote Desktop from the AppStore
- Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual/
- Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
- A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and record the Ip address associated with the computer
- Open the VNC Viewer app
- Click the (+) sign located in the upper right of your screen
- At the pop-up window, enter the Ip address, click Save and click Done
- Tap the Computer icon to connect, click Continue at the Identity Check window
- Enter your Username and Password if applicable, click Continue
- Click Ok to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
- Your desktop should automatically launch
- To end your session, click on the Start button, Power button and click Disconnect
- Tap GlobalProtect Home, Portal and select Disconnect.
Note: Connecting to a campus-based Mac computer from an iPad may slightly differ beginning from step 7.
- Tap the Computer icon to connect, click Connect at the Encryption window
- Enter your Password and click Continue
