How to connect to an Academic Lab Computer

Before connecting to Virtual Labs, please note the following requirements:

  • You must change your City Tech AD default password before accessing the services below. Change your default password using Self-Service Password Reset at https://forgot.citytech.cuny.edu
  • You must be connected to GlobalProtect before attempting the steps below

Connecting to a Campus-based Mac computer from a Mac computer

  1. Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual/
  2. Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a departmental Mac Lab from the Computer Labs list
  3. A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and click on Connect
  4. Click on Connect at the pop-up window
  5. Click Allow when prompted “Do You want to allow this page to open Screen Sharing
  6. In the Connect to box, enter the Ip address if it is not automatically selected
  7. Click Connect
  8. Enter your login credentials provided by your Academic Department
  9. Click Sign In
  10. Click Accept to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
  11. You should now see the desktop
  12. Click on the User Icon to login
  13. Your desktop should launch automatically
  14. To end your session, click on the Apple icon located at the upper left of your screen, select Log Out and click Log Out again when prompted
  15. Click red X in the upper left to end Screen Sharing

Connecting to a campus-based Mac computer from a Windows computer.

Note: You do not have to download/install VNC viewer for each use. For future use after installation, open installed VNC app, enter Ip Address of computer to connect and follow prompts.

  1. Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual/
  2. Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a departmental Mac Lab from the Computer Labs list
  3. A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and click on Connect
  4. Click on Install a VNC Viewer
  5. Ensure that Windows is selected and click on Download VNC Viewer
  6. Install application by double-clicking on the VNC Viewer, leave pre-selected options as is and click next at prompts until app is installed
  7. Click on the Start button and select VNC Viewer to launch app
  8. Click Got It on the startup page to proceed (only displayed for first time use of app)
  9. In the VNC Connect address bar, enter the Ip address of the computer as displayed in the

Connect page

  1. Hit the Enter button on your keyboard
  2. At the Identity Check pop-up window, click Continue
  3. At the Authenticate to VNC Server prompt, enter your login credentials that was provided by your Academic Department
  4. Click Ok
  5. Click Accept to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
  6. Click on the User Icon to login and enter your login credentials provided by your Academic department
  7. You should now see your desktop
  8. To end your session, click on the Apple icon and click Log Out
  9. Click red X in the upper left to end Screen Sharing

Connecting to a campus-based Windows computer from a Mac computer

  1. Visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/virtual/
  2. Click on Connect to Virtual Labs, How to Connect and select a department from the Computer Labs list
  3. A list of computers will be displayed. Select a computer of your choice and click on Connect
  4. At the pop-up window, click Download, a connection file will be downloaded to your computer (check your Download Folder)
  5. Click on the downloaded rdp file to open
  6. At the pop-up window, enter your Username and Password provided by your Academic department
  7. Click Continue
  8. Click Continue at the Remote Desktop Connection certificate window and click Continue again
  9. Click Ok to accept New York City College of Technology Computer Use Policy
  10. Click on the User Icon to login
  11. Your desktop should automatically launch
  12. To end your session, click on the Apple icon located at the upper left of your screen, select Log Out and click Log Out again when prompted
  13. Click X in the upper left to Disconnect
  14. At the prompt, to confirm that you are Disconnecting, Click Ok
