New Student Center

Welcome to the New Student Center

We are dedicated to providing you with thoughtful and thorough Academic Advisement and Career Counseling. Our Academic Advisors are trained to help you select courses that will meet the requirements of your chosen major and we will assist you in developing a schedule of courses that will take into account your personal and professional obligations.

If you are unsure of what major or career is right for you, our advisors will provide you with information you need to begin planning for your future career. Once again, we would like to welcome you to City Tech. It is our pleasure to help make your transition to the college as smooth as possible.

Academic Advisement

After testing, but before you register for courses, you will be assigned a time to meet with an academic adviser to plan your course of study and choose courses for the next semester. New students are advised in the academic advisement center, continuing students in their academic departments. Together, the adviser and you will choose courses that meet the requirements of your major program and that you are qualified to take. Your adviser will provide you with a signed copy of your registration form listing the courses you will take.

In general, your academic adviser should be consulted whenever you have questions about or are experiencing difficulties with your academic program. Any changes in the courses you select in consultation with your adviser must also be approved by the academic adviser, including courses you wish to drop or add during the term. Meetings with a departmental adviser can be scheduled through your major department office. Department locations and telephone numbers are listed in the catalog, and in the college directory, the student handbook and the college registration bulletin.

The Advisement Center is located in room N 104 and can be reached at 718.260.5013
