Safe Zone Program:

CityTech is committed to creating a diverse campus environment free of harassment and discrimination for all community members. We have established a Safe Zone program to address the invisibility and isolation often faced by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) students, faculty, and staff.
The Safe Zone program is a voluntary opportunity for members of City Tech to become allies for GLBT students, staff, and faculty here at City Tech. Volunteer allies go through a training that introduces them to various aspects of the lives and experiences of the GLBT individual and community. The program focuses on the issues that GLBT people face and how we can be successful, safe, and supportive allies.
The goals of the Safe Zone Project are to identify, educate, and support campus members who are concerned about GLBT people and issues on campus who are willing to provide support, information, and a safe haven; to provide visible support of the GLBT persons within the NYCTC community and of NYCTC’s commitment to promoted diversity and tolerance on campus; and to provide resources to GLBT persons within the City Tech community.
For more information about the safe zones program, or on becoming an ally, please call Holly Burmeister, Health Education Services, at 5914 or Daniel Fictum, Student Life and Development at 5391.
