Pathways—a CUNY documentary short—was the result of a project launched by the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research (AIR) at City Tech (New York City College of Technology). The original idea was to communicate City Tech's strengths identified on the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory in an innovative way: by the students to the students.

In Fall 2014, City Tech launched a project titled "Communicating Data through the Arts." The project began with a pitch competition with the College's Communication Design and Entertainment Technology students. The winning pitch was taken to City College's Film Production department. Thanh Hoang, a graduate student, and her team used the pitch as a framework for the film, which evolved into a documentary short that shadows three CUNY students.

Stephen Daldry, Tony Award-Winning and Oscar-Nominated film director, mentored the CUNY students throughout the interdisciplinary student-developed project, from pitch to finished film.

City Tech's innovative project will be featured by Ruffalo Noel-Levitz.
