TUTORING GUIDELINES

Tutoring helps you to develop or fine-tune knowledge and skills that can enable you to help yourself. Your expected active participation in this process includes the following:

  1. You must be involved in your on-line classes regularly. The purpose of tutoring is to supplement your class experience and not to replace it.
  2. Please refer to the “Atrium Learning Center’s Study Tips for Online Learners” in the Resources Tab, below.
  3. Have all the necessary materials with you for the tutoring session. This includes textbooks, notes, examinations you have taken and other supplies and tools you will need for your work.
  4. Read your assignments and prepare as much work as you are able before the tutoring session. This will enable you to know what areas you may be having difficulty with, so that they can be concentrated on in your tutoring session.
  5. You must do the work yourself. The tutor will guide you with the skills necessary to complete your work successfully. Tutors will not help you with examinations in progress.
  6. Utilize the tutoring sessions regularly and efficiently starting early in the semester. Do not ask for tutoring assistance at the last minute.
  7. Actively participate with your tutor during the session. Let your tutor know if you do not understand something. It may need to be explained again or tutored in another way.
  8. If, for any reason, you have a problem with your tutor or the tutoring schedule, please contact Judith Rockway at jrockway@citytech.cuny.edu.
  9. If you have a comment or complaint about the service that you received, please use our Student Feedback Form and submit it to the director.

The Atrium Learning Center offers an online, self-paced Microsoft Office training, which is available to you around the clock on your own computer. You will have an opportunity to learn Word, Excel, and/or Power Point. Whichever applications you choose to get acquainted with are up to you. Regardless of what you decide, one thing is clear: you will have access to instructional lessons, which provide a mix of videos and interactive exercises to practice what you learn. A certificate of completion will be issued to you once you finish the program.

Should you need assistance while learning these skills or to finish your assignments, the center has an instructor on hand who can assist you.

If for any reason, you have a problem with the instructor, please contact the director, and If you have a comment or complaint about the service you receive, please use our Student Feedback Form.

Please note: Registration for this training is available year-round to current City Tech students. This includes days that classes are not held, and the college offices are open, in addition to the days when classes are held.

For more information, to register, or discuss a problem please email Judith Rockway at jrockway@citytech.cuny.edu.
