Department of Instructional TechnologyAre you using the vast resources of the Internet to enrich your curriculum? Have you ever held an online discussion with your class? Would you like to teach a hybrid course where students meet face-to-face for some classes and online for others?
If you have an interest in seeing how technology can enhance your teaching, you'll want to take some seminars with the Office of Instructional Technology. Workshops and hybrid courses for faculty are offered throughout the year. They cover everything from promoting critical thinking in Web-enhanced courses to preparing digitized video lectures for the Web.
The department also empowers faculty to teach online and hybrid (partially online) courses. Faculty attend seminars covering the pedagogy and technology behind online courses, and they learn to use BlackBoard, a course management tool. In addition, online tutorials are available through the City Tech Online Web site.
Faculty wanting customized Web sites turn to the
Department of Instructional Technology for direct access to an FTP
account on Websupport1. In addition to showing you how to design
Web pages and upload them to your account, you can request special
Web services that benefit the entire academic community at City
Tech.
The Office of Instructional Technology also oversees several academic
labs, as well as the Open Labs located in N420 and V811. Equipped
with powerful PC and Macintosh computers, as well as software ranging
from Visual Studio to Adobe Photoshop, the labs are open to all
City Tech students. Technical support for students is available
in the labs.
