2003-04 Technology Fee Plan
Implemented in fall 2002, City Tech's student Technology Fee ($75 for full-time students and $37.50 for part-time students per semester) has funded new Open Computer Labs for all students in Namm Hall, Voorhees Hall and the library; the replacement of computers in departmental labs; the establishment of "smart classrooms"; the purchase of the latest software; the replacement of antiquated equipment; and an increase in tech support staff to provide more individual help to students. The college would not have been able to do any of these things without the tech fee. In a short period of time, this fee has proven to be invaluable to our efforts to offer our students a quality education.
In addition to building upon the many hardware, software and tech support staff accomplishments of the past academic year, initiatives for 2003-04 include investigating hardware and software options to establish e-mail accounts for students, creating more "smart classrooms" and implementing a degree audit system to give students access to academic program information (for example, the courses they must complete for graduation) whenever they want it. The College is also in the process of adding new multimedia carts with laptops and projectors with document cameras to be used and housed by individual departments.
With the monies provided by the Tech fee,
the College can ensure that students learn on state-of-the-art equipment,
which is crucial to their competitiveness in today's and tomorrow's
hi-tech job market.
