What are Career & Technology Teacher Education Programs?
These are four-year degree programs offered at New York City College of Technology leading to a Bachelor of Science in Education and New York State teaching certificates. The Career and Technical Teacher Education program prepares individuals to become certified as teachers of career and technical education (CTE) subjects in grades 7-12 in CTE and comprehensive high schools. (Examples of career and technical subjects are listed in another section below.) The degree program in Technology Teacher Education prepares individuals to obtain New York State certification as K-12 technology teachers.
Technology teacher education courses focus on the broad technological systems of communication, construction, manufacturing, transportation and energy. As part of the communications systems sequence, the program collaborates with the Computer Systems Technology Department to offer our students an array of courses that prepare them to effectively use and manage information technology (IT) in the schools. Thus, the Technology Teacher Education program produces graduates who are well equipped to deal with the challenges of using technology to raise the achievement levels of all students in New York City and beyond.
Career and Technology Teacher Education at City Tech are the only such programs in the entire City University system that prepare K-12 teachers of technology education and teachers of specific career and technical education (CTE) subjects.
