Research in the Physics Department

Astrophysics

Astrophysics is the study of the physics of everything that is outside of the Earth. The Sun, stars, other planets, extra-solar planets, galaxies, black holes and the universe as a whole are all the subject of astrophysics. Dr. Ari Maller is involved in the study of the origin and evolution of galaxies. His work seeks to connect theoretical modeling of galaxies using computer simulations and analytic models to observations from telescopes.

Fiber Optics and Optical Communications

Dr. Lufeng Leng conducts research on nonlinear processes in optical fibers and their applications in fiber based devices, optical networks, and transmission systems and subsystems. One of the ongoing research projects is broadband optical amplification based on Raman and optical parametric amplification processes
