Professor Sondra A. Rivera is an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing. She teaches one of two first semester nursing course entitled "Foundations of Caring" and is a nursing instructor for second semester clinical, NUR1130 medical-surgical and pediatrics. Professor Rivera remains working at the bedside as a RN in a medical-surgical unit caring for clients with a variety of health care concerns. Professor Rivera is involved with the departments of Nursing and Human Service in a research project examining the implementation of evidence based practice in the clinical setting.
Additionally, she is exploring ideas with colleagues for a SoTL project. Professor Rivera recently embarked as the department liaison to the Learning Center. Professor Rivera is on the Nursing Mass committee which host the annual Nurses Mass at St. James Basilica and is the faculty advisor for the Newman's club, a catholic faith based club with open doors to all faiths. Additionally, Professor Rivera is a co-advisor for the NUTRIX Nursing Club which set the roots for her nurse fundraising and community participation.
Professor Rivera graduated from the former New York City Technical College in 2001 and went on to obtain her BSN in 2005 and MSN-Ed in 2007 from the University of Phoenix-online. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Science at the Graduate Center at CUNY. She is the recipient of a scholarship at the Graduate Center and a $40, 000 "NURSING FACULTY LOAN FORGIVENESS INCENTIVE", from the New York State Higher Education Service Cooperation.
