Nursing
Professor Catherine McManus teaches the fourth semester nursing course entitled "Caring for Clients and Families with Growth Seeking Needs." The course focuses on family-centered health care and health teaching of childbearing clients and families in ambulatory and inpatient care settings. Professor McManus spends two days per week at Elmhurst Hospital where students gain clinical experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, the Newborn Nursery and Women's Health Services, and the Pediatric Ambulatory Care Clinic. She is the co-coordinator of the fourth semester and serves as chairperson of the Awards Committee.
Professor McManus serves on the NYCCT Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee. She is the NYCCT nursing faculty-liaison to the New York State Nurses Association and a member of the CUNY Nursing Discipline Council.
She has taught nursing at Misericordia School of Nursing, Catholic Medical Center School of Nursing and Queensborough Community College. Her clinical experience was acquired at Albert Einstein Hospital, Montefiore Hospital, Montefiore-Morrisania Comprehensive Child Care Project, and nursing homes.
Professor McManus has a BS degree from Hunter College, an MA from New York University with a major in Community Health Nursing and a minor in Education. She also has a Certificate as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from Molloy College.
Professor McManus believes that through teaching and mentoring students in a caring environment they are empowered to achieve their goal of joining the nursing profession
