Dr. Leinung is an Associate Professor in the Nursing department. She is currently teaching fourth semester students in the AAS program.

Prior to coming to New York City College of Technology she was an adjunct professor at Pace University, and Assistant Professor at Long Island College School of Nursing and most recently an Assistant Professor at Long Island University.

Dr. Leinung received a BSN from Regents College, State University of New York, graduating Magma Cum Laude she was the recipient of the Mildred Montag Award for Clinical Excellence, an MSN and FNP from Pace University. She was given an award for Academic excellence for graduating first in her Class. Dr. Leinung recently completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Leinung's clinical background is eclectic and includes many years experience in Maternal Child Health and Public Health Nursing. She is a Board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and currently practices in a College Health Clinic.. As a Public Health Nurse she was involved in piloting the Open Airways Program for students with asthma in the New York City public schools. She has worked both in clinical and community setting s to help children and adolescents manage their asthma by providing education and presentations. Her Doctoral thesis was the Development and Evaluation of an Asthma Education Program for Young Adolescents a pilot study in a an Urban Middle school.

Her current research interest is looking at resilience through exploring Personal narratives of family members of victims killed in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

  • Dr. Leinung serves as President of the Brooklyn/Queens Chapter of the Nurse Practitioner Association since 2006
  • A member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners
  • She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau honor Society of Nursing since 2000
  • And is a member of the National League for Nursing
  • She is an active Member of Peaceful tomorrows whose mission is to promote peace through providing education and self help resources to those affected by War. In 2004, she presented a paper “The Price of Peace” at the International Peoples Conference for Peace in Milan, Italy
