Dr. Dato is an associate professor in the Department of Nursing and the Coordinator for the Baccalaureate Program in Nursing. She teaches Professional Nursing Practice in the fourth semester of the Program. This partially on-line course examines a variety of professional, historical, theoretical, ethical, socio-political, and health related issues relevant to contemporary nursing.

Dr. Dato has a BS from Duquesne University, an MS from the University of Hawaii and a PhD from New York University. She was an Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Undergraduate Program at Long Island University School of Nursing before coming to City Tech. She has also taught at New York University, SUNY Brooklyn and the University of Malta. Her clinical experience has been in a range of psychiatric/mental health nursing settings in various clinical and administrative positions. She has recently been a consultant with New York City Health and Hospital Corporation.

Dr. Dato is active in the New York State Nurses Association and the International Society of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurses and has won awards for her contributions to professional organizations. She has published and presented on behavioral health issues and political action in nursing. In 2007 she wrote a chapter in Policy and Politics for Nurses and co-authored an article in Archives of Psychiatric Nursing.
