A Message from the Chair, Department of Nursing

Welcome to the New York City College of Technology, CUNY (City Tech) nursing web site. Our department offers two nursing programs: the Associate Degree in Nursing program (AAS) and the RN to BS Program ( BS). The AAS Program is a prelicensure program and the RN to BS Program is for Registered Nurses obtaining a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BS). Both programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the New York State Board of Regents.

The faculty at the City Tech Nursing Department are committed to providing you with a comprehensive nursing education – with the focus on a caring, human component. You are about to begin an important step in your professional journey. This exciting and challenging phase of your education will provide you with additional knowledge, skills and experiences to guide you on your path of lifelong learning. You will grow professionally and personally through interactions with faculty, fellow students, nursing staff and patients in clinical agencies. Along with many other college and university network resources, we have a state-of-the-art simulation lab that will help produce technically knowledgeable nurse researchers, leader and educators.

Over seventy percent of students who enroll in our RN-BS program complete the program. Our graduates exceed professional standards. Graduates of our RN-BS program are employed by our world class clinical partners who express high degrees of satisfaction with our graduates’ clinical competence. For more information about program outcomes for the RN-BS Program, please see the Baccalaureate Nursing Student Handbook which is also posted on our nursing website.

In our prelicensure program out graduates experience success on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) at the same level as graduates of all programs nationally. About half of all students who register for the first clinical nursing class successfully complete the program. In our graduate satisfaction survey, our graduates reported that 60% were working as an RN. For more information about our program outcomes, please see the Associate Degree Student Handbook which is also posted on our nursing website.

On behalf of the faculty, I invite you to explore the possibilities of starting or continuing your nursing education with us at City Tech.
