Thank you for your interest in our degree programs in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
The hospitality industry is one of the largest in the United States. With annual expenditures of over $2 trillion, hospitality and tourism have become the world's largest industry, and forecasters predict the industry could double in size by the year 2002.
Hotels, motels, restaurants, conference centers, catering establishments and other hospitality operations offer a myriad of exciting and rewarding career opportunities in food, beverage and lodging and management, particularly in the New York metropolitan area.
The Hospitality Management Department of New York City College of Technology offers two degrees to individuals interested in career opportunities in the hospitality industry:
A two-year associate in applied science degree and a four-year program leading to the bachelor of technology degree -- the only four-year program of its kind in the greater New York area. Courses are available both day and evening for the convenience of those already employed.
The college invites you to explore for yourself the possibility of first-rate practical training combined with theoretical and liberal arts education -- at an affordable cost -- in the world's most dynamic city.
New
York City, the international center of tourism, hospitality and
cuisine, offers you unparalleled opportunities for first-hand observation
of world-class hospitality enterprises and unequaled possibilities
for full-time or part-time employment in the field -- jobs that
bring you into close day-to-day contact with leading general managers,
marketing executives, executive chefs, housekeepers, travel consultants,
destination/tourism sales representative, purchasing agents, caterers,
food service managers, destination planning analyst, and many others
on the cutting edge of growth and change in the industry.
Those interested in learning about the industry usually think of New York City as the ideal setting for studying hospitality/tourism management and interning in some of the world's finest hotels and restaurants.
Students in the department enjoy the many benefits of studying in small classes under the guidance of expert faculty and learning in up-to-date, industry-standard facilities. They are offered a broad range of courses such as culinary and pastry arts, lodging operations management, meeting, conference and trade show management that include utilization of the latest computer applications.
Students may choose to specialize by selecting electives in many areas of study that include deluxe desserts, culinary nutrition for food service professionals and tourism. In addition, required courses in liberal arts and sciences provide the solid foundation graduates need for flexible career development in a rapidly changing world.
Career information hours are scheduled several times a term. Please call the Hospitality Management Department for particulars. Applications and information regarding eligibility for admission, transfers, fees, etc., are obtainable from the Admissions Office in Namm G-17
