Adrianne Wortzel is a Professor of Communication Design at New York City College of Technology. Adrianne received a MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 1995.
Professor Wortzel is particularly interested in the way interactive media and new technologies change existing cultural concepts as evidenced in design practice. Professor Wortzel teaches and develops curriculum in New Media with emphasis on Digital Video applications. She enjoys teaching courses that link design with other subjects, such as history and literature because she believes colloborating between disciplines is crucial: “We all can't be specialists in everything, but we can reach across disciplines for collaboration to enrich our work and our lives.”
Professor Wortzel creates web works, video and performance productions. Her work "Camouflage Town" was included in Data Dynamics, a net art show, at The Whitney Museum of American Art in the Spring of 2001. She was a co-PI in a successful National Science Foundation Award for creating robotics and theater. Professor Wortzel is a member of the doctoral faculty of the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Certificate Program at the CUNY Graduate Center, and an Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, where she is also the Director of StudioBlue, an arena for video performance productions using robotic characters.
She is a recipient of an Artist-in-Swiss-Labs Award and spent six months
in 2004 as an artist-in-residence at the Artificial Intelligence Lab, Department
of Informatics, University of Zurich, Switzerland developing her project
“archipelago.ch”. She has also produced international performative
webcasts, and was co-host and content provider for "Art Dirt"
a weekly live video-streamed interview format webcast originating from Pseudo
TV in New York. In the Spring of 2002, Professor Wortzel was voted New York
City College of Technology's 2002 Scholar on Campus. Her works are documented
