NORMA LEE CHARTOFF has been painting scenery for nearly 40 years. Her academic background includes a double major in art and theatre at the University of Connecticut, a BA in theatre from Southern Connecticut State University, and graduate studies in scene design at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She has worked as a graphic artist, art director for television commercials, film title designer, and designer of computer animation for trade shows, television, and marketing presentations.

Norma was scenic artist at many regional theatres including The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, The Intiman Theatre in Seattle, and Actors' Theatre of Louisville. There, she was assistant designer during several Humana Festivals, and back in NY, assistant designer on several Broadway productions.

With her husband Charles (Chip) Scott, Chartoff-Scott Studios mounted NY Off-Broadway productions. They also worked together for 8 years at Wagner College, where Norma was set designer and painter for musical productions, while also teaching classes in scene painting and set design.

More recently, Norma was consulting art director for an independent film shot in New England, "Thrall Hall", and scene designer for a NYC equity showcase of "The Mystery of Irma Vep". Norma is production designer and script writer for the Entertainment Technology Department's own annual Haunted Hotel, "The Gravesend Inn." She has taught scene painting here at NYC College of Technology for several years.
