The English department participates in a collaborative and creative support system for students preparing for careers or for transfer to other four-year institutions. For these students and for liberal arts majors whose plans do not extend beyond the two-year program, the department has as its mission the enhancement of those imaginative, analytical, reflective, and cultural aspects of self through written language.
A City Tech graduate who has taken the full
complement of English courses will be able to:
- write clear and correct English
- prepare researched documents that analyze, inform and persuade
- evaluate a range of texts written in a variety of modes
- recognize the relevance of literature to human existence
- recognize the pleasures, both intellectual and emotional,
that an
insightful reading of literature provides
