Research Interests:
- My research focus is on the molecular basis of neurodegenerative
diseases like Dystonia, and Parkinson’s. Deletion of a single
glutamate in torsinA correlates with early-onset Dystonia, the most
severe form of a neurological disorder, characterized by uncontrollable
muscle contractions. Symptoms usually begin around age 12. The disorder
typically begins in just one part of the body, but it eventually
spreads to other regions and leaves individuals severely disabled
and confined to a wheelchair. My aim is to find out, how the abnormal
version of the protein torsinA, leads to the disease.
