Assistant Professor DAWN NYE

Dawn Nye is an Assistant Professor in the Advertising Design and Graphic Arts Department of New York City College of Technology. She holds an MFA (1982) from Vermont College and BFA (1981) from the University of South Dakota.

Prior to joining NYCCOT’s faculty in 2002, Professor Nye had been responsible for developing successful marketing and educational strategies at leading graphic arts corporations such as Xerox and AGFA. Professor Nye also worked for Aldus, the company that produced the industry’s first page layout software, a product that sparked the desktop publishing revolution. She has been working with software programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, and Acrobat since their introduction to the marketplace.

Professor Nye’s formal training in design, together with her extensive professional experience in project management and desktop publishing software, enables her to offer a unique perspective to her students on how their artistic vision can be realized through careful planning and proper digital file preparation, whether the project’s ultimate destination is an offset printing press, a web site or an on-demand digital press. A recipient of the Gold Key Award from the International Graphic Arts Honor Society, Professor Nye describes her teaching philosophy as practical, hands-on, project-oriented approach.

Professor Nye is currently a member of the Craftsman Printing Club of New York and an member of the Advisory board for Enfocus, a software company that specializes in PDF workflow tools.
