Professor JOEL MASON

Professor Joel Mason serves as department chairperson, a position
he has held since 1988. He first began teaching at the college as an
adjunct instructor in 1977 and has been a full-time member of the
faculty since 1979. He earned a BFA from Cooper Union and a MFA
from Hunter College. Prior to his career at City Tech, he served as
Design Director for the New York City Parks, Recreation and Cultural
Affairs Administration (PRCA). He later formed a design firm with
clients including: Battery Park City Authority, Citibank, NYC School
Volunteer Program and former New York State Attorney General
Robert Abrams.

In 1992, Professor Mason designed the College's Journal of Urban
Technology and he continues to serve as its Art Director.
In 2002 he received the Joseph A. Fielder Fellowship Award
from the New York Club of Printing House Craftsmen. In 2003
Professor Mason won a PSC-CUNY grant to produce a portfolio of
digital photography which resulted in a 2006 exhibition, Signs & Spaces, held at the Grace Gallery at NYC College of Technology. He currently serves as President of the New York chapter of the American Printing History Association (APHA). In 2008 he received the “Person of the Year Award” from the Printing Teachers Guild of New York.
