Anita Giraldo is an Assistant Professor in the Advertising Design and Graphic Arts Department at New York City College of Technology. Professor Giraldo received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts and her BFA from the Cooper Union.
Before coming to City Tech as a full-time professor, Professor Giraldo taught image management at the International Center for Photography. She has worked in the production management environment for Time Out New York, LTB Media, Quad Graphics, Ruder Finn PRP, Sesame Street and Meigher Communications. She operated her own commercial photography studio during which time she photographed numerous national ad campaigns, catalogs and editorial stories.
In 2007 she was commissioned to document the industrial architecture of Columbia County by the Columbia County Historical Society, resulting in an exhibition at the Columbia County Museum in Kinderhook, NY. In 2005 she won an artist fellowship from the Puffin Foundation to travel to the US Gulf Coast to photograph the shipbuilding industry in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She also won a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and The New York State Council for the Arts for her photo-documentary work.
Her fine art work showed in the US and throughout Europe. Most notably, See My Voice, a multimedia interactive installation, was exhibited in Ohio and Amsterdam in 1996, Cologne (1998) and in Brooklyn (2009) in public venues.
While at work at City Tech, she is currently completing a new installation.
