Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)

Program Overview

City Tech's Writing Across the Curriculum Program assigns CUNY Writing Fellows to assist instructors with the enhancement of existing courses and the teaching of those courses. The program also sponsors faculty workshops, and regularly publishes a newsletter, The Connection.

Writing-Intensive Courses

Writing-Intensive courses are courses that use various types of writing and communication activities to improve students' comprehension of course material, as well as their writing and communication skills. They provide excellent training in critical thinking and expression, and the effective preparation for academic and career success. Students enrolled in writing-intensive courses should expect to write both formal and informal assignments; they may also expect to deliver oral presentations and use a variety of communication technologies. New York City College of Technology will soon require all entering associate degree students to pass two writing-intensive courses (one in the core curriculum and one in the major), and all entering baccalaureate degree students to pass four writing-intensive courses (two in the core curriculum and two in the major; with two of these passed prior to the completion of forty-five (45) credits).

The WAC Program Staff

WAC Coordinators are Professor Peter Spellane and Professor Mark Noonan.

City Tech's team of seven C.U.N.Y. Writing Fellows are accomplished graduate students well-versed in the theory and practice of writing across the curriculum. They are Ph.D. candidates from a variety of disciplines.
