City Tech Partners with Woodhull to Open Radiology Learning Lab

City Tech has partnered with Woodhull Medical Center to establish a Radiology Learning Lab on the premises of the hospital. The initiative was made possible by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez.
The lab is designed to promote a learning environment that will enhance the clinical experiences of students assigned to the hospital. In addition, the lab will provide an opportunity for radiographers to engage in clinical research activities.
“This learning lab will enable Woodhull to extend its outreach to the communities it serves and provide a future in the healthcare arena for the youth of North Brooklyn," said Iris Jimenez Hernandez, senior vice president of the Woodhull North Brooklyn Health Network.
Students from the City Tech Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging program will intern at the new lab. They will be supervised by faculty from the College and mentored by licensed radiologic technologists on staff at Woodhull.
“We are very pleased about this partnership, which will offer our students expanded opportunities for a meaningful career in the field of radiography, and provide them with clinical hands-on experience," said Barbara Grumet, City Tech's dean of professional studies.
The learning lab was made possible through a generous federal funding allocation of $321,000 from Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez.
“Through this latest collaboration with New York City College of Technology, our neighbors gain improved healthcare options and increased career opportunities,” Congresswoman Velázquez said. “I am proud to support Woodhull's efforts to both improve and expand their services to the Brooklyn community.”
Woodhull Medical Center is a 411-bed acute care hospital in Brooklyn, serving Williamsburg, Bushwick, Greenpoint, Fort Greene, and Bedford-Stuyvesant. It serves as the anchor for the North Brooklyn healthcare network, encompassing 16 community-based health centers, is a member of The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) and is affiliated with the New York University School of Medicine.
