On November 1, 2008, the New York State Society of Radiological Sciences (NYSSRS) conducted its annual student bowl competition that saw four seniors from New York City College of Technology’s Department of Radiologic Technology & Medical Imaging take second place behind frequent winner Monroe Community College.

The competition was held at the conclusion of the two-day NYSSRS Annual Conference. The one-hour match pitted teams from college- and hospital-based radiography programs from around the state. Multiple-choice questions were flashed on a screen and the competing teams had 10 seconds or less to respond to each question. A correct answer netted a team one point and an incorrect answer resulted in a one-point deduction from a team’s score.

This year’s conference and competition was held in Corning, New York. The second place finish was a significant one for the City Tech team, which consisted of seniors Penda Diene, Edison Guaman, Johncarlo Griffith and Yuri Martinez. Professor Eric Lobel, who coached this year’s team, soon will begin assembling another team for next year’s competition. “Our students did a superb job,” said Lobel, “and brought considerable distinction to CUNY, the College and department students, faculty and staff.”
