Restorative Dentistry Students and Faculty Tour Nobel

Twenty-six City Tech Department of Restorative Dentistry second-year students and three faculty members toured Nobel Biocare North American headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey, in November 2007. During the day-long event, the group received an overview of the world’s largest dental manufacturer, toured its robotics facility, simulated design of dental CAD-CAM procedures, and performed hands-on restorations of PROCERA Systems crowns. Nobel’s original CAD-CAM system was donated to the department in 2005, making City Tech the first school in the country to teach CAD-CAM design.

“The students are now well on their way to developing proficiency with the most advanced system in the dental technology profession,” says Professor Nicholas Manos, chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. “This enrichment of their training and education would not have been possible without the generosity of City Tech restorative dentistry alumnus Norman Russell ‘75, Nobel’s technical representative, Steve Fowler, Nobel’s esthetics specialist, and the City Tech Foundation for funding the group’s transportation.

“Oh, yes,” adds Manos, “we also ate way too much delicious food courtesy of Nobel and the caterer. What’s worse, we didn’t have a chance to brush and floss after eating. Not good!”
