They Don’t Call It ‘Give Kids a Smile Day’ for Nothing
Photos by George Lowe, City Tech Media Services
When’s the last time you saw so many smiling faces in a dentist’s office – or so many kids, for that matter? Let’s face it. Most people would rather go to a movie or the beach than to the dentist, and put off those check-ups, years after year, until they wake up one morning with a terrible toothache that signals something is wrong.
The parents of the children in the photo gallery below have the right idea – start them going to the dentist early and take them regularly. These are only a few of the young people who visited New York City College of Technology’s Dental Hygiene Clinic on February 1 for a free comprehensive check-up and referrals to the appropriate dental professional, where conditions warranted. They also got expert instructions in how to properly brush their teeth, floss and all the rest, and left with a free toothbrush and other basic dental healthcare supplies.
For many years now, the College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic has been a designated official site for the American Dental Association’s annual “Give Kids a Smile Day” cost-free check-up. This year’s results were good for most of the children, which is one big reason you’ll see so many smiling faces in these photos.
City Tech’s Department of Dental Hygiene also operates its Dental Hygiene Clinic throughout the school year, offering a variety of free or low-cost dental hygiene services and a sealant application program to City Tech students, faculty, alumni and community residents of all ages.
