ACCESS FOR WOMEN Director Tours Con Edison Learning Center

Nona Smith, right, director of the New York City College of Technology’s Division of Continuing Education ACCESS for Women program, together with Florence Jackson, executive secretary, New York City Department of Education, and former Congressman Major Owens, were among a group of educators, community leaders and public officials to recently tour Con Edison’s Training and Learning Center. The tour was hosted by Con Edison CEO Kevin Burke and afforded participants an overview of the energy giant’s employee training facilities and development programs designed to providing reliable, safe and efficient services to its customers

“Con Edison has a terrific Learning Center,” says Smith, with simulated systems for training purposes. The tour included demonstrations of the various systems that generate and deliver energy to customers. We even experienced a mock blackout.”

Smith, who earned an EdM from Teachers College, Columbia University, is an expert in program development and management of program services for youth and adult students. Her special areas of expertise include gender equity and women’s issue in technological education and careers.
