26 Hospitality Management Students Complete TIPS Certification Course

Twenty-six students from City Tech’s hospitality management program recently completed the Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) certification course under the direction of Professor Patrick O'Halloran (pictured far left), a certified TIPS trainer. TIPS addresses concerns specific to restaurants, hotels, bars, night clubs and all on-premise liquor license holders, including preventing customer intoxication, underage drinking and drunk driving. TIPS certified employees provide their establishments with the benefit of lower liquor liability insurance rates and a “reasonable effort defense” whenever an alcohol-related incident occurs. "The reason I wanted the students to be TIPS certified,” said Professor O’Halloran, “is that in this volatile economy the broader their education, skill set and industry certification, the greater their employment opportunities."
